Pipes ! come in many shapes and sizes.
A rank is a group of pipes of different sizes that sound the same. Short pipes make high sounds, long pipes make low sounds. Normally the pipes in a rank also look the same.

| These pipes work like a flute or a whistle | |
The pipes below (Reed pipes) work like a clarinet or saxaphone. There is a metal reed in the bottom of the pipe (boot). The top part (resonator) helps determine what the pipe sounds like.
