Theatre Organist: Wayne Zimmerman, Sr.

As
a youngster, Wayne Zimmerman studied piano for seven years and organ
for three. Through elementary school, high school, and college he
played in various school bands and orchestras.
Through the 1960’s and ‘70's Wayne served as organist at the Lansdowne Theatre, in Lansdowne, Pa, the Tower Theatre
in Upper Darby, Pa, and the Brookline Theatre in Havertown, Pa,
providing Theatre Pipe Organ music before and between the featured
movies. In June, 1990 he was engaged as organist for the newly
opened Merlin Theatre in suburban Philadelphia, where he appeared on
Friday and Saturday evenings for more than three years.
Wayne has concertized from coast to coast and in Hawaii. He has performed locally for Delaware Valley TOS, GSTOS, Dickinson TOS,
the Old York Road Organ Club, Keyboard World / Home Organists
Adventure, The Hammond Organ Society, trade show product
demonstrations, and at a number of home pipe and electronic organ
installations. Especially thrilling for Wayne were two noontime
performances he presented on the famed Wanamaker Pipe organ in the
Center City, Philadelphia department store.
Wayne enjoys presenting his audiences with “good” music, including
ballads, standards, Broadway show tunes, movie scores, operettas,
marches, and holiday/seasonal music. He also enjoys accompanying
audience “sing-alongs,” and full length silent films.
